Seeing the light:

Our good friends at The Associated Press report that the University of Texas has put up for bid on eBay some lights that sat atop the Royal-Memorial Stadium scoreboard for many years. The lights, in the shape of the Longhorn logo, came down when the scoreboard was dismantled in the latest round of renovations and expansion. The initial bid was set at $2,000 with an immediate purchase price of $30,000. They won't fit on a nightstand and are not suitable for use as night lights in a dark, long corridor, because they stand more than 8 feet tall and 6 feet wide and weigh about 400 pounds. The buyer must arrange for delivery by July 31. We can't make these things up.

A hairy tale: So what did the Dallas Mavericks do the day after losing the NBA Finals to the Miami Heat? In Dirk Nowitzki's case, he took a sharp razor to his ... head. Whew! Our good friends at AP report that a bored, but not despondent Nowitzki shaved his face clean and reduced his long hair to a trace. "I was disappointed ... frustrated. I had to do something," Nowitzki said.
