Dream matchup:
Richard Sandomir of the New York Times took looking ahead in these NBA playoffs to a whole new level this week. What matchup would he most anticipate in the event of a Heat-Mavericks championship series? Dwyane Wade vs. Dirk Nowitzki? Wizened Pat Riley vs. newcomer Avery Johnson? None of the above.

His dream matchup: American Airlines vs. American Airlines. Both teams' arenas are named after the air travel giant. It would be, Sandomir points out, the first time in naming-rights history that two teams playing in arenas named for the same corporation played for a major sports title.

"We're obviously marketing geniuses," said Tim Wagner, a spokesman for American, "... a visionary sports marketing company."

A new golf course opened in Southampton, N.Y., last weekend. But it's doubtful you'll find a coupon for it in this year's Entertainment Book. A membership ensuring golf and accommodations at one of 15 four-bedroom "cottages" being built around the course runs $650,000, which might be the world's highest fee, writes Bloomberg News Service. Of course, a golf-only membership can be had for a mere $500,000. But be warned: Fees don't include $12,000 annual dues ... or tips for caddies.

And finally ...:
On the subject of money, Roger Clemens' sister reportedly had the last word when it came to his decision this week to return to the majors. "Mom would want you to be working," she told him. "She doesn't want you to be unemployed. So go back to work." Yeah, back to work. After all, you never know when a rainy day might come up that the roughly $121 million he has already made in his major-league career won't cover.
