Lake Erie: Good steelheading was reported mid-week in low clear conditions. Rain was in the forecast. Fish were as far as Sterattannia and McKean on Elk Creek, the region's biggest tributary, as a result of recent snowmelt. Dennis Cony, 11, of Canonsburg, landed a 12-pound steelhead on an egg sack in the lower reaches of Walnut Creek Wednesday. Live minnows and light color egg patterns, Wooly Buggers, streamers and nymphs have been productive in low clear conditions. Expect heavy angling pressure through the weekend, but more elbow room after deer season starts Monday. In Presque Isle Bay, largemouths have been going crazy on small spinnerbaits and Dingers deadsticked. In the lake, the night bite for walleyes has been very good for anglers flat-lining deep diving crankbaits in 40 feet of water, from Cleveland eastward to Vermillion, Ohio.

Allegheny River/Allegheny Reservoir (Warren County): Average size walleyes are hitting in the river, although fluctuating releases from the Kinzua Dam are playing havoc with fishing. Numbers of walleyes are hitting in the lake, with many anglers limiting out. Rob Genter and Kit Pascorella of Tidioute won the October Allegheny River Bass Fall tournament out of Oil City with a four-fish Big Bass total of almost 121/2 pounds. Ernie and Ken Pate of Butler finished second with just over a 12-pound total that included the 31/2-pound tournament lunker.

Allegheny River (Venango County): The river has been on fire with smallmouth bass and walleyes. Anglers are doing well on Yum Tubes and Gulp! Alive Minnows.

Pymatuning Reservoir (Crawford County): Dandy crappies are coming off the docks. Walleyes are hitting Sonars in about 16 feet. Numbers of perch also are reported, but sizes are small. Several anglers have released sub-legal size muskies in the tailrace of the river.

Shenango Reservoir (Mercer County): Fishing pressure picked up Tuesday with anglers catching numbers of crappies from boat and shore.

Neshannock Creek (Mercer County): Good conditions prevailed this week with anglers catching trout on nymphs and egg patterns. For more, visit www.neshannock.

Lake Wilhelm (Mercer County): The panfish bite off Sheakleyville Bridge remains excellent, with quality bluegills hitting from dusk through evening. The best crappies are coming after dark. Catches off the docks have been scant this week and boating pressure for bass and walleyes remains low.

Allegheny River: Nice numbers of walleyes in mixed sizes up to 25 inches are hitting at Lock 3, with most anglers fishing from shore.

Ohio River: Anglers continue to catch walleyes from the Emsworth dam to Dashields dam. A few smallmouth bass are being picked up but sizes are running average.

Youghiogheny River: Tom Shockey of Chalk Hill released a 30-inch rainbow trout fly fishing at the mouth of Meadow Run Monday.

Youghiogheny Reservoir (Fayette County): Numbers of walleyes up to 3 pounds were hitting on jigged Rapalas, Hopkins Spoons and Vibes, in 30 to 40 feet last weekend.

Deep Creek Lake (Maryland): George Swarzik of Washington, Pa., and a friend caught 20 walleyes, 17 and 18 inches, and 24 perch, including many jumbos, over two days last week.
