District Fishing Report: 2.21.13

Lake Erie tributaries (Erie County): A spike in flow Monday and Tuesday precipitated an increase in steelhead activity, with good catches reported on upper Elk and Walnut creeks. Above-freezing temperatures predicted for the weekend were expected to melt snow and ice and provide days of sustained flow.
Pymatuning Reservoir (Crawford County): Two anglers reported an outstanding day of bluegill fishing through broken ice.
Conneaut Lake (Crawford County): A pair of sublegal northerns were caught Wednesday on live minnows.
Lake Wilhelm (Mercer County): Little to no fishing activity was reported.
Piney Dam (Clarion County): Perch and walleye were active, with some nice catches reported.
Lake Arthur (Butler County): Nice catches of bluegills and bass were reported in Muddy Creek Bay on these Big Bass regulation waters.
Bradys Run Lake (Beaver County): With a covering of ice too thin to support anglers, the lake received an unscheduled state stocking of rainbow trout Feb. 12.
Raccoon Lake (Beaver County): With a full winter allotment of rainbows stocked last week, anglers had success with chartreuse and orange jigs, or small minnows.
Ohio, Allegheny rivers (Allegheny County): Two nights this week on the Ohio River, Robert Wasileski III of Ingomar cleaned up on walleye when males 16 to 19 inches aggressively took shad-pattern jigs. The state Fish and Boat Commission reported that walleye were being caught on the Allegheny around Sharpsburg. Area fisheries manager Rick Lorson said that with water around 38 degrees, walleye and sauger were still in a pre-spawn mode but were staging near the mouths of larger tributaries. The walleye runs were expected to begin in mid-March when the water reaches 50 degrees. Sauger run when water temperatures pass 50.
North Park Lake (Allegheny County): The state stocked rainbows Feb. 13. During a warm spell with no ice, anglers had limited success in shallow water with spoons and paste baits.
Donegal Lake (Westmoreland County): Rainbow trout were stocked by the state Feb. 11.
Keystone Lake (Westmoreland County): Little fishing activity was reported, but one angler caught several rainbows on jigs and mealworms since the Feb. 5 state stocking.
Northmoreland Lake (Westmoreland County): Rainbows were stocked by the state Feb. 5.
Mammoth Lake (Westmoreland County): A state stocking of rainbows occurred Feb. 11.
Twin Lakes (Westmoreland County): Rainbow trout were stocked by the state in the upper and lower lakes Feb. 13.
Canonsburg Lake (Washington County): Rainbow trout were stocked Feb. 11.
Lake Rowena, Duman Dam (Cambria County): The state stocked rainbow trout Feb. 13.
