Lake Erie tributaries (Erie County): Good steelheading was reported over the weekend at the Walnut Creek Access Area. Ice covered most of the tribs, particularly in the upper reaches. Water flow spiked during a mid-week warming spell, and sub-freezing temperatures and snow showers were predicted for the weekend.
East and West Basin Ponds, Upper Gravel Pit (Erie County): The state plans to stock brown trout Feb. 5.
Lake Pleasant (Erie County): A state stocking of rainbows is planned for Feb. 4.Pymatuning Reservoir (Crawford County): Walleyes, crappies and perch were caught in deep waters. Ice was 2 inches on south end where perch were caught at drop-offs and near creek mouths. Ice was thicker to the north where crappies were caught on maggot-tipped jigs. One angler iced 61 crappies.
French Creek (Crawford County): Walleye fishing was tough, but muskies and northerns were caught. The flooded mouths of feeder streams were expected to be hot following a mid-week snow melt.
Justus Lake (Venango County): A state stocking of brook trout is planned for Feb. 6. Some nice crappies were caught through the ice over the weekend.
Brady's Run Lake (Beaver County): Despite the risks of on-again, off-again ice, patient anglers pulled trout limits through the hard surface. Paste baits were hot near the boat launch, and anglers caught trout and bluegills while jigging near the bottom The state stocked rainbows Jan. 23.
Laurel Hill Lake (Somerset County): A state stocking of rainbows is planned for Feb. 6.
High Point Lake (Somerset County): Several nice northerns, 26 and 28 inchers, were caught on big shiners through 7-inch ice Sunday. On Tuesday, 22- and 30-inch chain pickerels were caught. Bass and some big yellow perch were also taken. Use caution: midweek rains and a warm spell weakened the ice.
Youghiogheny River (Somerset County): A state stocking of rainbows is planned for Feb. 6 from the dam outflow to Casselman Run.
