Lake Erie tributaries (Erie County): Blow-out conditions during Hurricane Sandy moved gravel and woody debris throughout the region, and anglers discovered unfamiliar features on many tributaries. Anglers reported Twelvemile Creek was blocked at the mouth. Many streams were full of steelheads in the days after the storm and large numbers of fish were caught. As flow dropped this week, many fish moved upstream or back into the lake. Wednesday and Thursday catches were reported near the mouths of larger creeks, particularly Elk, Walnut and Twentymile. Temperatures were expected to rise into the 60s this weekend, with no rain in sight.
Conneaut Lake (Crawford County): The state Fish and Boat Commission reports "a few small problems" in ongoing dredging at the main boat launch, but workers continues to remove sediment and install a pipeline at Inlet Run. All boaters must launch at Fireman's Beach.
Pymatuning Reservoir (Crawford County): Rain from the recent storm raised the lake to usual winter pool levels.
Allegheny River (Venango County): The recent drop in water temperature was expected to spark walleye activity, and smallmouths were caught throughout the region.
Oil Creek (Venango County): Two beats -- Drake's Well to the Oil Creek Hiking Trail bridge, and Petroleum Center bridge to the Columbia Farm Railroad bridge -- were stocked with rainbows last month by the state.
Justus Lake (Venango County): Fish and Boat stocked rainbow trout Monday at the 144-acre lake at Two Mile Run County Campground.
Lake Arthur (Butler County): Limited musky action was reported, but catfish were taken with crawlers off the bottom near Route 528 and Bear Run, and bass clustered near structure were going for slowly retrieved jigs and crankbaits.
Lake Oneida (Butler County): A drawdown is under way to facilitate construction near the dam and spillway.
Allegheny River (Allegheny County): Anglers reported a spike in smallmouth, walleye and sauger action, attributed to cooler water temperatures.
Deer Lakes (Allegheny County): During October's Indian Summer, Steve Knebel of Cranberry released a pair of brown trout. Middle and Lower Deer Lakes were stocked by the state with rainbow trout Oct. 11.
Spring Creek (Centre County): Running high but fishable with water temperatures in the 60s and good clarity. Trout were caught by anglers working the banks with streamers. Hatches included midges (size 22-26), Tan Caddis (16-18) and Blue Wing Olives (20-22).
Raystown Lake (Huntingdon County): Since the storm the lake is hot. Anglers and the state Fish and Boat Commission reported recent catches of striped bass, largemouths, smallmouths and yellow perch. Bass were taking spoons and subsurface jerk baits; perch were caught at grass beds on live bait and artificials.
