District Fishing Report: 11.30.12

Lake Erie tributaries (Erie County): High winds, cold air and low water kept steelheaders off the creeks much of last weekend, but shore anglers reported some nice lake trout. A few sizable catches were reported at the Walnut Creek Access Area and in deep pools on other creeks, but low flow and clear water made the chromers spooky. Predictably, angling pressure dropped after the statewide opening of rifle deer season Nov. 26. Snow or rain showers were expected in the Erie region today and Sunday.
Oil Creek (Venango County): In the wake of state stockings of rainbows in October, fly anglers were doing well. Size 14-16 nymphs were hot, particularly in the project waters near Petroleum Center and Drakes Well.
Neshannock Creek (Lawrence County): Good flow and a light green tone. Anglers reported catching trout at Volant and the covered bridge.
Ohio River (Beaver County): Several flatheads reported. Light angling pressure.
Monongahela River (Washington, Westmoreland counties): Catfish and walleye catches were reported near the launch between Donora and Monessen.
Little Juniata River (Huntingdon County): Running lower than the seasonal average, but water temperatures were in the low 50s, and caddis and Blue-winged Olives were sighted.
Spring Creek (Centre County): Low but fishable. Streamers and egg patterns were recommended.
