The University of North Carolina had the antidote to put an end to the recruiting battle for Perry Traditional Academy offensive lineman Cameron Holland.

Holland, who plans to major in pharmacy, gave a verbal commitment to the Tar Heels yesterday. The 6-foot-3, 280-pound senior-to-be chose North Carolina over Division I offers from Pitt, Kentucky, Bowling Green, Temple and Toledo.

What sold Holland was a trip he made to Chapel Hill last weekend.

"After going down there and being on their campus, it was just the right fit for me," Holland said. "Getting familiar with their coaching staff was a big deal and so was meeting with the academic support staff. After I did that, and saw what their pharmacy school had to offer, North Carolina was definitely the right fit for me."

Holland projects as a guard for the Atlantic Coast Conference school, whose offensive coordinator is Frank Cignetti, Jr. -- a Pittsburgh native who played at IUP.

"They told me that I was exactly the kind of lineman that they were looking for," Holland said. "And after I saw the school, it was exactly the kind of school I was looking for."
