WPIAL Girls' Lacrosse Championships: Peters Township bags third consecutive title

Peters Township is the queen of WPIAL girls' lacrosse again.
Jules Femiani scored seven goals to lead the Indians to their third consecutive WPIAL Division I championship with an 18-15 win against Upper St. Clair at North Hills last night.
The teams were deadlocked, 8-8, at halftime, but the Indians (14-6) scored the first four goals of the second half and never looked back.
Upper St. Clair (13-7) managed three consecutive goals to cut the deficit to 15-14, but the Indians scored three of the final four goals to seal the victory.
Seven players scored for Peters Township, which was playing in its fifth final in a row.
Rachel Engel led Upper St. Clair with six goals, and Meredith Cain scored five.
Emily Dando's goal with a little more than a minute remaining pushed Quaker Valley to a thrilling, 12-11 triumph against Shady Side Academy in the Division 2 championship at North Hills.
After the Indians (15-3) stormed back from a three-goal deficit to tie the match, 11-11, Dando netted the winner with 1:23 left to keep Quaker Valley (16-2) unbeaten against district competition.
A junior and the Quakers' leading goal-scorer, Dando scored three goals and has 31 on the season. Rachel Ganz led the Quakers with four goals and Natalie Bouchard added three.
Quaker Valley, which never trailed, jumped to a 7-2 lead, before the Indians scored the final three goals of the first half.
The Indians pulled within one early in the second half but got no closer.
Piper Person, a University of Richmond recruit, scored a game-high five goals for Shady Side Academy. Nicole Wei chipped in three.
