Winning a second consecutive WPIAL Class AAA diving championship wasn't enough for Pine-Richland's Dominic Giordano.
He broke a meet record, too.
Giordano successfully defended his boys title with a record-breaking score of 610.00 in the meet Saturday at North Allegheny.
Giordano, a senior who committed to Florida State, scored a 544.50 when he won the competition as a junior.
No diver provided Giordano much competition.
Noah Bostick, a junior from North Hills, placed second, but was 113.35 points behind.
Butler junior Levi Cetti was third with a 461.15.
North Hills senior Ryan Kennedy placed fourth with a 423.05.
A year ago, Bostick finished third, Kennedy fourth and Cetti fifth.
Maria Lohman was the big story in the girls championships.
Lohman, a sophomore from Chartiers Valley, won a gold medal for the second year in a row and became the first diver to win gold medals in Class AAA and Class AA.
Chartiers Valley competed in Class AA a year ago, before moving up to Class AAA this season.
Lohman scored a 467.60, just short of the 470.95 she finished with as a freshman.
Lohman edged Bethel Park senior Ashley Sams, who scored a 463.05. Sams also placed second last season.
North Allegheny sophomore Julia Vespoli placed third with a 379.50, and Fox Chapel sophomore Miranda Simon was fourth with a 336.45.
The top six boys and girls finishers advance to the PIAA Class AAA championships March 15-16 at Bucknell University, Lewisburg, Pa.
