It was a disappointing night for the three WPIAL teams entered in the PIAA girls volleyball semifinals, as North Allegheny, Mars and Greensburg Central Catholic were defeated Tuesday night at different sites.

North Allegheny, the WPIAL's third-place finisher in Class AAA, dropped a 3-1 decision to Landisville Hempfield, the third-place finisher from District 3.

Hempfield advanced to the Class AAA title match for the third consecutive year and sixth time in 11 years. The Black Knights will face District 11 champion Parkland in the title match Saturday, in the last of a tripleheader at Central York High School. Parkland is the defending PIAA champion.

Mars, the WPIAL Class AA champion, dropped a 3-2 decision to District 10 champion Fort LeBoeuf. Both teams were making their first appearance in a PIAA semifinal match.

"Fort LeBoeuf made some adjustments with their in the fourth set," Mars coach Dan Mountain said. "When we adjusted to what they were doing, it was too late."

Fort LeBoeuf will face District 3 champion Delone Catholic in the title match.

Greensburg Central Catholic, the WPIAL Class A champion, dropped a 3-2 decision to District 9 champion Clarion after winning the first two sets.

"It was a tough loss," Greensburg Central coach Heather Meyer said. "The girls played hard and did not give up."

Clarion earned its third consecutive title berth and will face District 4 champion Williamson in the title match.
