Peters Township captures PIAA girls tennis title

Peters Township defeated Unionville, 3-0, Saturday to win the PIAA Class AAA girls tennis championship in Hershey, Pa.
It was the third title in the past four years for the Indians.
In doubles, Jen Holcombe and Vida Komer won, 6-4, 6-2, while Megan Hixon and Morgan Paris won their match, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2.
With the team needing just one win in singles to clinch the title, Abby Cummings won her match, 7-5, 6-2, to seal the victory.
• Trinity 31, Ringgold 30: Trinity (5-4, 5-3) thwarted a 2-point conversion attempt by Ringgold (4-5, 4-4) in the second overtime to secure the Big Nine Conference win for the visiting Hillers. Ringgold had five turnovers -- four fumbles and an interception. Trinity running back Don McWreath ran for two touchdowns while Patrick Frey and Robert West contributed one touchdown each. Ringgold's Demetrius Louis led all rushers with 124 yards and scored two touchdowns. With the win, Trinity clinched third in the conference. The loss dropped Ringgold to sixth. Both will compete in the WPIAL playoffs.
• Western Beaver 20, South Side Beaver 15: Zach Perry carried 31 times for 195 yards and two touchdowns and Steve Robison ran for a score in the victory for host Western Beaver (3-6, 2-6). John Magusiak ran for a touchdown and kicked a 24-yard field goal for South Side Beaver (2-7, 1-7).
