It was another clean sweep for Obama Academy in the City League girls volleyball tournament Thursday at Brashear. Obama posted 2-0 wins in its three matches for the Eagles' second consecutive title and sweep.

"The girls worked very hard with the goal of defending the title we won last year," said Obama coach Pete Vitti, who led Schenley to three consecutive City League titles before the school was closed.

Obama opened with a 25-20, 25-9 win against Carrick, then beat Allderdice, 25-15, 25-17. Brashear upset Allderdice in the consolation final to reach the title match.

"We were surprised to see Brashear upset Allderdice," said Vitti, after Obama won the championship, 25-15, 25-8. Gabby Egler led Obama with 12 kills in the championship as the Eagles qualified for the PIAA championships in the Class AA. Brashear qualified in Class AAA.
