North Allegheny takes down No. 2 seed

Jarred Lux recorded two pins to lead North Allegheny to the WPIAL Class AAA semifinals for the first time since 1999. Lux pinned Kiski Area's Shane Kuhn in the 220-pound bout, and the No. 7-seeded Tigers (16-3) upset No. 2 seed Kiski Area (20-1), 36-30, in a quarterfinal match at Kiski Area. Scott Stossel (106) and Alex DeCiantis (170) also had pins for the Tigers.
Lux (28-0) also recorded a pin in North Allegheny's 35-31 win against Central Catholic in the first round. Kiski Area earned its quarterfinal berth with a 41-27 win against Ringgold.
• No. 5 Greensburg Salem (11-3) advanced to the semifinals for the first time since '94 with a 40-29 win against Hampton (15-2). Tanner Hahn's pin of Hampton's Nick Yaraszewski at 3:46 in the 220-pound match clinched the victory. Greensburg Salem beat Chartiers Valley, 49-16, in the first round; Hampton topped Peters Township, 44-21.
• Canon-McMillan (20-0), the top seed and two-time defending WPIAL champion, advanced to the semifinals for the fifth consecutive year with a 66-6 blowout of Hempfield (9-5). The Big Macs opened with a 69-3 win against West Mifflin. Hempfield beat Latrobe, 35-34, on a tiebreaker.
• No. 3 seed Connellsville (15-3) rallied from a 14-0 deficit to earn its 23rd semifinal berth with a 39-23 win against Butler (14-4). The Falcons beat Hopewell, 47-18, in their first match.
• Top seed Jefferson-Morgan (14-1) advanced to the semifinals for the first time since '95 with a 67-5 quarterfinal win against Keystone Oaks (6-13).
• No. 2 seed Chartiers-Houston (16-5) earned its third consecutive semifinal berth with a 44-21 win against South Fayette (7-7). The Buccaneers advanced to the quarterfinals with a 64-6 win against South Allegheny.
• No. 3 seed Burrell (13-8) advanced to the semifinals for the 12th consecutive year with a 51-19 win against Kittanning (10-7). The Buccaneers posted a 47-21 win against Derry in the first round.
• No. 4 seed Bentworth (12-2) earned its first semifinal berth since '91 with a 42-30 win against Yough (8-5) as Jake Rothka (113), Matt Vickless (113), George Liberatore 126, Vince Vahaly (132), Cole Foster-Alauzen (138) and Francis Mizia (160) had pins.
