The Montour softball team continues to have Ambridge's number.
Just as they did in the WPIAL Class AAA championship a year ago, the Spartans dialed up a victory Thursday against visiting Ambridge, 3-0, in a non-section game.
Kaitlyn Kutchman pitched a two-hitter with seven strikeouts for No. 4-ranked Montour (6-2), which held No. 1 Ambridge (6-1) in check after the Bridgers scored 44 runs in their previous three games.
The Spartans defeated their old section rival for the fourth consecutive time, including a 1-0 victory in the WPIAL final.
⢠Hope Pehrson's four-hitter helped Class AAAA No. 2 Hempfield (7-0, 5-0) defeat visiting Penn-Trafford (6-2, 4-2), 13-1, in Section 1. The Spartans have given up only five runs this season.
⢠Alexa Larkin pitched a perfect game with 10 strikeouts and went 3 for 4 with two RBIs to help Class AAAA No. 5 Latrobe (6-1, 5-0) roll to a 12-0, six-inning victory against host Albert Gallatin (0-8, 0-5).
⢠Kiersten Badzgon went 4 for 4 with three RBIs and Jenna Ross homered to lead host Keystone Oaks (4-2, 4-1) to a 10-6 upset of No. 3 Avonworth (5-2, 3-1) in Class AA Section 1.
⢠Ashleigh Rafferty's single drove in Brittnay Yough in the 10th to give host Laurel (8-2, 5-2) its second win this season against Class AA No. 4 Riverside (6-2, 4-2), 4-3, in Section 5.
⢠Katie Gross singled in Kallie Harper in the ninth to help North Hills (6-4) edge visiting Hampton (4-3), 6-5, in a non-section game. Gross went 3 for 4, and teammate Carly Mundie went 4 for 4 with a home run and three doubles.
⢠Lindsay Reicoff's solo home run in the eighth gave visiting Chartiers Valley (5-2) a 2-1 win against Bethel Park (2-5) in a non-section game. Reicoff was the winning pitcher and struck out seven.
