A three-time PIAA champion, two two-time state champs and a two-time National Prep champion headline the list of wrestlers chosen for the Pennsylvania All-Star team for the Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic.
Franklin Regional's Nico Megaludis, a 125-pound senior, has the most impressive resume of the 13 members of the Pennsylvania team. Megaludis, a three-time PIAA Class AAA champion, concluded his career with a 170-1 record, including a streak of 135 consecutive victories.
Reynolds' Mason Beckman and Wyomissing's Nick Hodgkins are two-time PIAA Class AA champs. Beckman (196-12) claimed his second title at 119 pounds, while Hodgkins (164-8) captured his second at 145.
Kiski School's Evan Henderson is a two-time National Prep School champion, both coming in the 140-pound weight class. Henderson, a native of New Florence, boasts a 169-9 record.
Representing the WPIAL are Megaludis and Burrell's Travis McKillop, who claimed the PIAA Class AA 160-pound title by upsetting returning champion Cody Wiercioch.
"I've been going to The Classic since I was 8," McKillop said. "I've always looked up to those wrestlers. Now I get a chance to wrestle in The Classic."
The Classic is March 27. The United States All-Star team will face the Pennsylvania All-Stars in the feature match at 6 p.m. A team of WPIAL All-Stars will face Team Michigan in the preliminary match at 4 p.m.
