Looking to avenge their loss against Upper St. Clair last week, No. 10 Shaler led the No. 7 Panthers, 2-0, late in the second period Tuesday night of their first round PIHL Class AAA Penguins Cup game.
But Connor Ackerman brought Upper St. Clair back from the brink of elimination.
Ackerman scored two third-period goals, the last coming on a one-timer off a pass from Austin Cassidy with 41 seconds left, to lift the No. 7 Panthers (13-7-2) to a 3-2 win at Ice Castle.
"It was awesome," Upper St. Clair coach Denis Kirstein said. "Just an outstanding game."
Matt Boyd got the Panthers on the board first, scoring with 31 seconds left in the second period. Ackerman tied it 4:30 into the third period on a shot off a faceoff that Cassidy won.
