WPIAL Class AAA Roundup: Knoch falls to Hampton in upset

Hampton quarterback Jon Nigro connected with Collin Luther on a 40-yard touchdown with 3:15 remaining in the game to give the host Talbots a 20-17 Greater Allegheny Conference win against Knoch.
The loss was the first for the Knights (4-1, 3-1) this season and drops them into a tie with Hampton (4-1, 3-1) in the conference standings.
Trailing 10-7 at halftime, the Talbots took the lead with 11:53 remaining in the fourth quarter on a 2-yard touchdown run by Frank Bello. It was Bello's second touchdown of the game.
The Knights quickly answered, with Dakota Bruggeman htting Mike Cunningham on 36-yard touchdown pass with 10:42 left on the clock to make it 17-14.
Bruggeman threw for 142 yards and two touchdowns in the game, but completed just 7-of-18 passes and was intercepted twice. Knoch had three giveaways in the contest while Hampton had zero turnovers.
Nigro finished 11-of-24 for 147 yards passing in the win.
The No.1 Spartans (5-0, 4-0) led 31-0 at halftime and cruised to a Parkway Conference victory against the visiting Bridgers (2-3, 2-2).
Montour's three-headed monster at quarterback, Tynen Greer, Max Rosinsky and Ryan Mihelick, combined to throw for 209 yards and three touchdowns and run for 50 yards and a score. Devin Wilson led the Spartans on the ground with 130 yards and two scores.
Kodi Nichi and Kennell Washington each scored a rushing touchdown for Ambridge.
Josh Schultheis rushed for 175 yards and scored on runs of 1, 4, 1 and 47 yards to help keep the No. 3 Planets unbeaten (5-0, 5-0) with their win over the host Golden Lions (1-4, 1-4) in Greater Allegheny Conference action.
Schultheis improved his season touchdown total to 15.
Mars quarterback Owen Nearhoof connected with Chris Smith and Billy Shrock on touchdown passes of 24 and 42 yards, respectively.
Daniel Walters scored Greensburg Salem's lone touchdown on a 7-yard run.
Joe Carroll added to his WPIAL-leading touchdown pass total Friday by throwing three scoring strikes in the No. 4 Jaguars' (5-0, 4-0) win at home against the Colonials (0-5, 0-4) in Big Nine Conference action.
Carroll now has 21 touchdown passes after connecting with Colton Booher on touchdowns of 6 and 16 yards and Zach Schabbeman on a 5-yard score. Booher also returned a fumble for a touchdown.
Jaquan Davidson ran for 101 yards and three touchdowns and passed for another score to lead the Warriors (3-2, 3-2) to a Big Nine win against the visiting Red Raiders (1-4, 1-4).
Davidson scored on runs of 21, 1 and 19 yards. Rex Pearce led Elizabeth Forward on the ground with 150 yards and scored on a 57-yard run.
Jimmy Wheeler had touchdown runs of 11, 58, 1 and 16 yards to keep the Titans (5-0, 5-0) undefeated with a Big Nine Conference victory against the host Rams (3-2, 3-2).
Brian Urban ran for 119 yards and three touchdowns and passed for 135 yards and a score to lead the host Golden Tigers (3-2, 3-1) to a Greater Allegheny Conference victory against the Trojans (1-4, 0-4).
Corey Hunsberger caught a 30-yard touchdown, ran for a 61-yard score and returned an interception 91 yards to the end zone to help the visiting Hillers (3-2, 3-1) throttle the Mustangs (0-5, 0-4) in the Big Nine Conference.
The Leopards (1-4) held a 158-137 total yardage edge, but the Panthers (4-1) got two defensive touchdowns and a 50-yard punt return score from Colin Jonov in their nonconference road victory. Jonov also had a 37-yard touchdown reception.
The Hurricanes (2-3, 1-3) earned their first Parkway Conference win of the season in a matchup with the host Colts (2-3, 1-3), as Jalen Holmes and Julian Cox combined for 236 of New Castle's 364 rushing yards.
The visiting Vikings (2-3, 2-3) blew out the Tigers (1-4, 1-4) in a Parkway Conference matchup.
The Golden Rams (1-4, 1-4) notched their first victory of the season by defeating the visiting Little Indians (1-4, 1-4) in a Greater Allegheny Conference contest.
