It took the Clairton Bears one half of football to score 10 touchdowns and set a school record for points in a game Friday night in an 84-0 win in a Black Hills Conference mismatch at Clairton.
Tyler Boyd scored his fifth touchdown of the game on a 40-yard punt return to give No. 1 Clairton (5-0, 3-0) a 76-0 lead against winless Avella (0-5, 0-3) with more than three minutes to play in the second quarter.
The previous school record for points in a game was 69. The Clairton defense held Avella to minus 28 yards of total offense.
Brandt Gribbin had a hand in all three touchdowns as North Catholic (4-1) upset No. 4 Monessen (4-1) in a non-conference game at J.C. Stone Field. Gribbin passed for two touchdowns and rushed for another for the Trojans, who led 12-0 at halftime.
Tyler Bowman and Dustin Conti rushed for second-half touchdowns to help Jefferson-Morgan (3-2, 3-1) erase a 6-0 halftime deficit at Mapletown (1-4, 1-4) in the Tri-County South.
Sto-Rox quarterback Lenny Williams tossed four touchdown passes to four different receivers and rushed for another in a shutout win at Union (2-3, 1-2) in a Big Seven Conference game. The No. 2-ranked Vikings (5-0, 3-0) outgained the Scotties, 484-50.
In its second season of existence, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart (2-3, 2-3) has its first two-game winning streak. The Chargers raced to a 38-0 lead against Eastern Conference rival Leechburg (0-5, 0-4) at Joe Walton Stadium behind 234 yards rushing from Isiah Neely.
Chris Shortly threw his third touchdown pass of the game in overtime, and Michael Hawrylak converted the ensuing extra point to keep Brentwood (5-0, 3-0) perfect with an overtime win at Fort Cherry (3-2, 2-1). The Rangers forced overtime when Tanner Garry found his cousin Corey Garry for a 43-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter but a potential game-winning extra point failed. After another Corey Garry touchdown in overtime, a missed extra point set the stage for Brentwood's winning drive.
Carlynton (2-3, 1-2) forced nine fumbles and recovered four of them in a shutout win at Serra (1-4, 1-2) in a Black Hills Conference game.
Jamie Fell caught two touchdown passes and returned an interception for another to lead Frazier (3-2, 3-1) past visiting Geibel (1-4, 1-4) in the Tri-County South.
Carmichaels (2-3, 1-3) edged host West Greene (0-5, 0-5) behind Brennen McMinn's 172 rushing yards and two scores in a Tri-County South contest.
Seven different players scored touchdowns for the Buccaneers (4-1, 2-1) in a shutout win against visiting Bentworth (0-5, 0-3) in the Black Hills Conference.
The No. 3-ranked Rams (4-1, 2-1) bounced back from a loss last week against Sto-Rox to blast visiting Shenango (2-3, 1-2) in the Big Seven Conference. Shenango did not attempt a pass in the game.
Jake Sofran returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, and Sal Faieta rushed for two touchdowns and passed for two touchdowns as Beth-Center (5-0, 5-0) blasted host California (4-1, 3-1) in a Tri-County South game.
