When Eastern Conference rivals Avonworth and North Catholic meet, games are usually decided by a few points.
Friday night at J.C. Stone Field, they were decided by a few yards.
The North Catholic defense stopped visiting Avonworth inside the North Catholic 5-yard line on the final drive to preserve a 19-15 win in an Eastern Conference showdown.
The past six regular-season meetings between the two rivals have been decided by 10 or fewer points. The Antelopes led, 15-12, before Adam Sharlow put the Trojans on top for good with a 3-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. P. J. Fulmore led the Trojans with 114 rushing yards.
Lenny Williams had 309 yards of total offense to lift Sto-Rox (5-1, 4-1) past host Union (4-2, 3-2) in the Big Seven Conference.
Third-ranked Monessen (5-1, 5-1) scored touchdowns on a blocked punt, a punt return, a kickoff return and a fumble recovery on its way to a Black Hills Conference win at Serra (0-6, 0-6).
A fourth-quarter rushing touchdown propelled Frazier (4-2, 4-2) past previously unbeaten Avella (5-1, 4-1) in the Tri-County South.
Ron Brown and Khari Hicks each rushed for a pair of touchdowns to pace Imani Christian (5-1, 5-1) in a Black Hills Conference win at California (1-5, 1-5).
Cody Durant, Matt Riggle and Jason Stay combined for 414 rushing yards and six scores in No. 5 Beth-Center's (6-0, 6-0) Tri-County South win at Jefferson-Morgan (4-2, 4-2).
Tyler Boyd rushed for 237 yards and three touchdowns and Armani Ford hooked up with Terrish Webb for two touchdown passes to help top-ranked Clairton (6-0, 6-0) shrug off a 7-6 first-quarter deficit on its way to a Black Hills Conference win at Brentwood (3-3, 3-3).
Brian Tanner rushed for a score and passed for another to help Shenango (3-3) overcome an 8-0 deficit on its way to a non-conference win at Riverview (1-5).
Northgate (5-1, 5-0) blanked host Leechburg (1-5, 1-4) in the Eastern Conference behind a big day from Cody Walter, who rushed for 260 yards and scored two touchdowns.
Kevin Ridgley passed for two scores and rushed for one to lead host Mapletown (3-3, 2-3) past Bentworth (1-5, 0-5) in the Tri-County South.
Sean Dugan rushed for 241 yards and two scores in Springdale's (4-2, 4-1) shutout win at Apollo-Ridge (3-3, 3-2) in the Eastern Conference.
Jim Tersak rushed for 147 yards and four touchdowns to send the Crusaders (5-1, 5-1) to a Black Hills Conference win at Fort Cherry (2-4, 2-4).
Dalton Wildman threw four touchdown passes, including three to Matt Johnston, to lift West Greene (2-4) past Vincentian (1-5) in a non-conference game.
Four different players scored for Chartiers-Houston (2-4, 2-4) in its Black Hills Conference win against visiting Carlynton (1-5, 1-5).
Wilkinsburg (1-5, 1-5) knocked off host West Shamokin (1-5, 1-5) in the Eastern Conference.
