West Shamokin snaps 45-game losing streak

West Shamokin broke a 45-game losing streak, the longest in WPIAL history, by beating Eastern Conference foe Riverview, 25-6, Friday night.

Andrew Wingard led the Wolves (1-2, 1-2) with 142 rushing yards and a touchdown on 11 carries. The win was the first for the Wolves since a 20-8 victory against Allegheny-Clarion Valley Sept. 21, 2007.

Tim Wagner had five catches, one of which was a 34-yard touchdown, for the Riverview (0-3, 0-3).

OTHER GAMES

Clairton 54, California 6

The Bears (3-0, 3-0) became only the ninth WPIAL team to win 600 games in a blowout of the visiting Trojans (0-3, 0-3) in a Black Hills matchup. Tyler Boyd scored three touchdowns for Clairton, which won its 50th straight game.

Neshanock 35, Sto-Rox 34

Connor Richards made the extra point after Alex Welker's 8-yard touchdown run with 18 seconds left as the host Lancers (3-0, 3-0) knocked off the No. 3-ranked Vikings (2-1, 2-1) in a Big Seven Conference game. Welker also had seven receptions for 101 yards in the contest. Sto-Rox's Lenny Williams threw for 400 yards in a losing effort.

Rochester 21, Union 19

Danta Marsick ran for 125 yards and two touchdowns as the No. 2-ranked Rams (3-0, 2-0) eked out a Big Seven Conference win against the Scotties (2-1, 1-1) Drew Robinson scored two rushing touchdowns in the loss.

Laurel 24, OLSH 13

Josh Dando scored on rushes of 8 and 6 yards to lead the Spartans (2-1, 2-1) to a Big Seven win against the visiting Chargers (1-2, 1-2).

Avonworth 35, Leechburg 0

Zachary Chandler threw for three first-half scores for the Antelopes (2-1, 2-0) in an Eastern victory against the Blue Devils (1-2, 1-1).

Frazier 27, Bentworth 9

Charles Manack threw three of his four touchdown passes in the fourth quarter to help the Commdores (2-1, 2-1) rally past the visiting Bearcats (0-3, 0-3) in Tri-County South action. Frazier trailed, 9-6, entering the fourth.

Northgate 21, North Catholic 7

Cody Walter scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to help the Flames (3-0, 3-0) take down the Trojans (2-1, 2-1) in a battle of Eastern Conference unbeatens

Jeff-Morgan 52, West Greene 12

Nick Santoya scored a touchdown rushing and receiving in a Tri-County South win for the Rockets (3-0, 3-0), who cruised past the Pioneers (1-2, 1-2).

Monessen 49, Fort Cherry 20

Chavas Rollins had three touchdowns for the fifth-ranked Greyhounds (3-0, 3-0) in a Black Hills Conference victory against the Rangers (2-1, 2-1).

Bishop Canevin 38, Carlynton 0

The No. 4-ranked Crusaders (3-0, 3-0) got 142 rushing yards and two touchdowns from Giovanni DeMarzo in a Black Hills Conference victory against the visiting Cougars (0-3, 0-3).

Avella 40, Mapletown 14

Santino Paris and Jake Temple each had two touchdown rushes to lead the Eagles (3-0, 2-0) to a Tri-County South victory against the visiting Maples (1-2, 0-2).

Beth-Center 35, Carmichaels 6

Matt Riggle scored three rushing touchdowns to lead the Bulldogs (3-0, 3-0) to a Tri-County South win over the Mighty Mikes (2-1, 2-1).

Char-Houston 44, Serra 13

Javone Hairston had touchdown runs of 80 and 78 yards as the Bucs (1-2, 1-2) rolled past the Eagles (0-3, 0-3) in the Black Hills.
