The Upper St. Clair-Central Catholic WPIAL playoff game was thought to be a fairly even matchup.

But Upper St. Clair turned it into a blowout, defeating Central Catholic, 38-0, in a Class AAAA quarterfinal tonight at Baldwin High School.

Central Catholic had two fumbles and two interceptions in the first three quarters and all four turnovers led to touchdowns. The mercy rule went into effect in the fourth quarter. Under the rule, the clock runs continuously when a team goes ahead by 35 points or more in the second half.

Mac Pope scored two touchdowns for Upper St. Clair. Pete Coughlin ran for one TD and threw for another.
