University Prep moves on in PIAA playoffs with stunning upset victory

Just a week removed from a 462-yard, record-setting passing performance, University Prep senior quarterback Akil Young passed for 353 yards and five touchdowns en route to a 36-22 victory against Clearfield Saturday in a PIAA Class AAA Districts 5-6-8-9 subregional at Clarion University.

University Prep (7-3), the City League's runner-up, handed District 9 Clearfield (11-1) its first loss of the season.

Perry's 61-14 loss to District 10 McDowell of Erie Friday leaves University Prep as the lone City League representative in the PIAA playoffs.

University Prep will play District 4 champion Selinsgrove (9-3) in a first-round game either Friday or Saturday at a location to be determined.
