The Aliquippa-Ambridge high school football season opener was postponed from Saturday to Monday because of weather. But the two-day delay didn't stop Aliquippa from storming past Ambridge.

Aliquippa, the Post-Gazette's No. 1 Class AA team in the WPIAL and state, defeated host Ambridge, 36-0, Monday afternoon in a non-conference game.

Terry Swanson rushed for 113 yards, Malik Shegog and Dravon Henry scored two touchdowns apiece and the Aliquippa defense pitched a shutout against the Class AAA Bridgers. Shegog, Aliquippa's quarterback, scored on runs of 4 and 10 yards while Henry ran 9 yards for one touchdown and returned an interception 26 yards for another.

Aliquippa and Ambridge didn't play each other the past two seasons, so this was the renewal of a series that goes back to 1920. Aliquippa leads the series, 48-34. There were five ties.
