Recruit Report: Area juniors are already on the radar

High school senior football players across the country signed letters of intent with Division I and I-AA colleges Wednesday, but many juniors have scholarship offers from major colleges.
Two juniors from the WPIAL are being heavily recruited by colleges across the country and a third has picked up a number of scholarship offers in the past month.
Central Valley junior receiver Robert Foster and North Allegheny junior offensive lineman Pat Kugler likely will be highly rated nationally in the class of 2013. Foster has scholarship offers from Pitt, Penn State, Florida, Southern California, Notre Dame and Ohio State, among others.
Kugler has 24 scholarship offers. Among those that have offered are Pitt, Penn State, Michigan State, Florida State, Florida, Michigan, Virginia Tech and Boise State.
Foster and Kugler were two of three juniors on the Post-Gazette Fabulous 22 in 2011. The third was Tyler Boyd, a running back/receiver/defensive back at Clairton. When the season ended, Boyd had only one scholarship offer -- from Pitt. Since the end of the season, he has picked up offers from, among others, West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia Tech, Boston College, Arizona and Arizona State.
Montour receiver/defensive back Devin Wilson is another talented junior in the WPIAL. Although he doesn't have any scholarship offers, more and more major colleges are starting to show interest in him. Wilson also has a few Division I offers for basketball.
Jeannette's Demetrious Cox decided earlier this week that he would play at Michigan State. He is a highly rated defensive back, but Michigan State's coaches have mentioned to Cox the possibility of using him a little on offense.
Cox was a standout quarterback at Jeannette, rushing for more than 1,000 yards as a senior and throwing for close to 1,000.
"They've talked to me about maybe using me in the wildcat somehow," Cox said. "Maybe at receiver or somewhere like that."
Jeannette coach Roy Hall said Michigan State and Wisconsin told Cox he has an excellent chance for playing time at defensive back early in his career.
"With his physical play, and he's very intelligent, I think he'll do well," Hall said. "Plus, when he gets up there, it won't be him playing football, basketball and other things. It will be all football and schoolwork. He has great potential."
It was almost 30 years ago Jeannette sent another defensive back to Michigan State. Maurice Chamberlain, a 1984 Jeannette graduate, was a three-year letterman at Michigan State.
