Eleven players from the WPIAL made the Class AAAA all-state team, and more than half were from North Allegheny.
North Allegheny, one of the top teams from the WPIAL in recent history, had six players on the Pennsylvania Sports Writers All-State Football Team released Thursday. Also, North Allegheny quarterback Mack Leftwich was selected the Class AAAA player of the year.
Leftwich became only the third quarterback in WPIAL history to throw for 3,000 yards in a season, and he threw for more than 5,554 yards in two seasons. He also rushed for 1,459 yards in the past two years.
North Allegheny finished 16-0 this season and won WPIAL and PIAA titles. The other five North Allegheny players were offensive lineman Pat Kugler, receiver Gregg Garrity, tight end Zach Lyon, defensive lineman Jeremy Gonzales and defensive back Brendan Coniker.
