Two more WPIAL football coaching jobs are open.

McKeesport's Jim Ward and Steel Valley's Rod Steele resigned this week. Their departures mean eight WPIAL jobs are vacant. The others are Deer Lakes, Canon-McMillan, Chartiers Valley, Shenango, Laurel and Imani Christian.

Both Ward and Steele left after their third seasons at McKeesport and Steel Valley.

"It's just personal reasons," Ward said. "Some things I was uncomfortable with as we approach next year, and the more I thought about it, I thought this was the right time. I wanted to give McKeesport enough time to search for a new coach because I think next year's team has a chance to be outstanding. They'll have 18 starters coming back."

Ward was 19-11 in three seasons at McKeesport. He also was coach at Yough for one year and three seasons at South Allegheny. He plans to continue to work at McKeesport High School as the assistant vocational director.

Steele was 16-14 in three seasons at Steel Valley. His son, Vincenzo, a sophomore lineman at Steel Valley, already has transferred to Central Catholic, where his father used to be an assistant coach.
