Longtime Bishop Canevin football coach Jacoby to retire

Bob Jacoby, who coached high school football at Bishop Canevin High School for four decades and won more than 200 games, has decided to retire.
Jacoby informed Bishop Canevin administrators of his decision Tuesday. He planned to meet with his team this morning.
Jacoby, 67, had a 238-170-7 record in 40 seasons and won one WPIAL championship when the school was called Canevin.
He is among the top dozen winningest coaches in the history of the WPIAL.
"He hadn't given any indication earlier, but I think he just felt this was the right time," said Jacoby's son, Eric, Bishop Canevin's offensive coordinator. "He has 11 grandchildren and he has said he wanted to see his grandchildren more. Plus, my mother is retiring from her job [as a guidance counselor] this year, too, and he wants to spend more time with her."
Eric Jacoby is not interested in succeeding his father as coach and neither is Bob Jacoby's other son, Neal, who also was a Bishop Canevin assistant coach.
