The Clairton High School football team set a Pennsylvania record with its 60th consecutive victory, a 58-21 win against Sto-Rox in the WPIAL Class A title game today at Heinz Field.
It's the fifth consecutive WPIAL title and the sixth in seven years for the Bears. Clairton is the second team in WPIAL history to win five consecutive titles. Braddock won five Class AA titles from 1955-59.
The Bears were led by tailback Tyler Boyd and quarterback Armani Ford. Boyd rushed for 144 yards on 16 carries and scored on runs of 14 and 77 yards. He also connected with Santeaun Sims on a 74-yard touchdown on a halfback option pass.
Ford completed 9 of 16 passes for 180 yards and three touchdowns. He connected with Terrish Webb on scoring passes of 22 and 24 yards, and with Titus Howard on a 35-yard scoring pass. Ford also scored on a 1-yard sneak.
Sto-Rox was led by quarterback Lenny Williams, who threw for one touchdown and ran for another. Williams completed 7 of 22 passes for 106 yards and connected with Elisha Bonner on an 18-yard scoring pass. He also rushed for 103 yards on 19 carries and scored on a 52-yard run.
The victory earns Clairton a fifth consecutive berth in the PIAA Class A playoffs. The Bears will face the winner of Saturday's game between Port Allegany (11-0) and Clarion (12-0) in the quarterfinals Friday at a site and time to be determined.
