The WPIAL will have a hearing with school officials and boys basketball coaches from Brentwood and Monessen to look at charges of racial slurs from Brentwood students and players.

Monessen fans and players claimed Brentwood students and players used racist comments during a Feb. 3 game.

The WPIAL decided Monday to bring the case to a hearing before the league's Board of Control a week from today.

"It is the intent of the board to provide an opportunity for both schools to share with the board what it was they contend occurred at the game," WPIAL executive director Tim O'Malley said.

"The board will listen and respond accordingly, if needed."

Monessen coach Joe Salvino said some of his players contended some Brentwood players and fans directed racist comments toward them, but Salvino said he never heard them.

Brentwood school officials said they conducted an investigation and did not find any racist comments were made.

Forfeits cost Wilkinsburg

The Wilkinsburg girls basketball team is out of the WPIAL playoffs after having to forfeit two victories because of the use of an ineligible player. The two losses dropped the Tigers record to 4-8 in Class AA Section 3 and out of the playoffs.
