HERSHEY, Pa. -- The Vincentian girls proved to be the best Class A team in the WPIAL this season, but a poor second half made the Royals settle for second best in the state.
Playing in its third PIAA title game, Vincentian fell short of winning its second title, as the Royals were defeated by District 11 champion Tri-Valley, 59-42, in the PIAA Class A championship game today at the Giant Center.
Tri-Valley's Tara Nahodil, a 6-foot-4 center and Seton Hall recruit, scored all but two of her 19 points in the second half, and finished with eight rebounds and four blocks.
Vincentian trailed Tri-Valley, 25-24, at the half, but the Royals looked like a completely different team for most of the second half. Leading, 33-31, midway through the third quarter, Tri-Valley scored the final 12 points of the quarter, and extended the run to 23-2 by outscoring Vincentian, 11-2, to begin the fourth quarter.
Tri-Valley shot 72 percent (13 of 18) in the second half, making 12 of their first 15 field goal attempts. Vincentian shot 25 percent (7 of 27) in the second half.
Brenna Wise led Vincentian with 18 points and 18 rebounds. Abbey Bartoszewicz added 10 points.
