CLASS AAAA
Friday's games: Chartiers Valley (21-7) vs. Mt. Lebanon (24-3); Cumberland Valley (24-6) vs. North Penn (24-5).
Leading scorers: Mariah Wells, Chartiers Valley, 13.4 (will not play); Alex Ventrone, Mt. Lebanon, 11.0; Christine Ehland, Mt. Lebanon, 11.0; Kassidy O'Keefe, Chartiers Valley, 9; Alexa Golden, Chartiers Valley, 9.
The scoop: This is Chartiers Valley's first year in Class AAAA ... Coach Dori Oldaker led Mt. Lebanon to three consecutive PIAA titles in 2009, '10 and '11 ... The Colts reached the 2012 Class AAA semifinals before falling to Archbishop Wood, 42-37, the eventual state champion .... The winner meets the survivor of another quarterfinal between Cumberland Valley and North Penn next Tuesday.
CLASS AAA
Saturday's games: Franklin (26-1) vs. South Park (25-2); Blackhawk (26-1) vs. Lancaster Catholic (30-1).
Leading scorers: Chassidy Omogrosso, Blackhawk, 22.4; Shelby Lindsay, South Park, 17.8; Hallie Torris, South Park, 15.5.
The scoop: Blackhawk won its first two PIAA tournament games easily against Bradford, 86-46, and Forest Hills, 82-52. South Park ended Shatori Walker-Kimbrough's career as Shelby Lindsay led the Eagles with 17 points in a 50-46 victory against Hopewell.
CLASS AA
Friday's games: Bishop Canevin (24-4) vs. Burrell (24-3); Seton-LaSalle (26-2) vs. Mohawk.
Leading scorers: Shelby Brown, Mohawk, 17.2; Erin Waskowiak, Bishop Canevin, 15.6; Sydney Bordonaro, Burrell, 15.1; Naje Gibson, Seton-LaSalle, 13.5.
The scoop: A WPIAL team will be in the state final as all four quarterfinalists are from District 7. The Bishop Canevin-Burrell game is a rematch of the WPIAL semifinals won by the Crusaders, 55-19. Mohawk and Seton-LaSalle did not play in the regular season. Seton-LaSalle is averaging 69.8 points a game, highest among the four Western quarterfinalists. Canevin has the stingiest defense, yielding 33 points a game.
CLASS A
Saturday's games: Vincentian Academy (27-1) vs. Kennedy Catholic (24-2); Bishop Guilfoyle (26-2) vs. Clarion (25-3).
Leading scorer: Brenna Wise, Vincentian Academy, 22.3.
The scoop: The Royals are the last WPIAL team in the Class A tournament. The Vincentian-Kennedy Catholic game is a rematch of the finalists at the Penn State-Beaver tournament won by the Royals, 70-53. The two teams also met in the 2012 state quarterfinals, a game the Royals won 56-51. he Royals survived a scare before edging Berlin Brothersvalley, 44-42, Wednesday night.
