Perry, Westingouse in City League title game

The Perry boys basketball team lost to Obama Academy by seven and 23 points in the regular season, but Perry turned the tables when it mattered the most.

Perry pulled off an upset Monday night, defeating Obama, 80-79, in overtime in a City League semifinal at Brashear.

In the regular season, Obama (16-3) finished in first place in the City League and Perry (12-12) was the fourth-place finisher.

Obama scored with two seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime.

In the extra period, Perry's Devin Lyles hit two free throws with eight seconds left to put the Commodores ahead, 80-79. Obama missed a 3-pointer just before the final buzzer.

Lyles scored 19 points to lead five Perry players in double figures.

For Obama, D.J. Porter scored 26 points.

Other semifinal

Westinghouse avenged two losses to Brashear in the regular season and rolled to a 68-47 victory in the other semifinal at Allderdice.

The victory puts Westinghouse (14-8) in the title game for the first time since 1996.

The Bulldogs will play Perry on Saturday.

Westinghouse took control of the game in the first quarter, jumping to an 18-6 lead. Westinghouse led, 34-19, at halftime.

Robert Bailey led Westinghouse with 30 points and Affanni Brown added 13. Devon Taylor scored 20 for Brashear (15-8).
