The Lincoln Park boys basketball team just got a lot better.

Elijah Minnie, a talented 6-foot-8 junior, finally won his eligibility case on the fourth try and now can play for Lincoln Park. Minnie transferred from Summit Academy to Lincoln Park before the start of the school year, but he was ruled ineligible by the WPIAL and PIAA, who said the transfer was for athletic intent.

Minnie got another appeal hearing with the WPIAL because he claimed there was new evidence in his case. But the WPIAL again denied his eligibility in December. He appealed again to the PIAA, and the PIAA overturned the WPIAL Thursday by a 3-2 vote.

WPIAL officials are upset at the PIAA's ruling. The PIAA, however, upheld a WPIAL ruling on another case. The WPIAL ruled Yacine Diop, a girls basketball player, ineligible after transferring from Oak Hill Academy to Seton-LaSalle. She appealed to the PIAA, but the PIAA upheld the ruling by a 5-0 vote.
