High School Highlights: Butler surprises No. 2 NA

One of the area's top boys basketball teams lost to a WPIAL opponent for the first time this season.

Nate Snodgrass scored 21 points and visiting Butler used a strong fourth quarter Friday to upset Class AAAA No. 2 North Allegheny, 75-69, in Section 3.

Snodgrass scored 10 points in the fourth quarter, all on free throws. Butler (8-4, 3-1) outscored North Allegheny, 22-14, in the final quarter.

Dom Pusateri chipped in 17 points for Butler.

Adam Haus had 24 points for the Tigers (7-2, 2-1), whose only other loss was to Wheeling Park, W.Va.

More boys basketball

• Kason Harrell's 21 points helped host Hempfield (8-1, 4-0) claim the Class AAAA Section 1 lead with a 68-53 victory against Kiski Area (7-3, 3-1). Tyler Handlan scored 13 of his 15 points in the fourth quarter for Hempfield.

• Shawn Anderson scored 23 points and Class AAA No. 1 New Castle (10-0, 3-0) rolled to an 83-54 win against host Central Valley (7-4, 3-1) in Section 2.

• Elijah Hill's 20 points led a group of five Wilkinsburg (6-3, 2-2) players scoring in double figures in an 89-68 victory against visiting Seton-LaSalle (7-3, 1-2) in Class AA Section 3.

• Jeannette (7-3, 3-1) ended a two-game losing streak by handing visiting Brownsville (8-3, 2-1) a 61-53 defeat in Class AA Section 4. Demetrious Cox scored 19 points for the Jayhawks.

• Zach Challingsworth scored 29 points in leading host South Fayette (8-2, 4-0) to a 71-50 victory against Washington (6-4, 2-1) in Class AAA Section 5. Josh Wise led Washington with 19 points.

City drama

• Justin Dobbs scored the winning points on a 3-pointer with 30 seconds left for City League No. 1 Allderdice (7-2, 4-0) in a 53-52 win against visiting No. 2 Obama Academy (5-5, 2-2). Ben Mickens led the Dragons with 18 points.

• Hasaun Blair made 1 of 2 free throws with 14 seconds remaining to lift No. 3 Carrick (4-6, 3-1) to a 58-57 home win against winless Brashear (0-9, 0-4). Jaquan Wheaton's 19 points led the way for the Raiders.
