Girls Basketball Roundup: Vincentian makes all the Wise moves in victory

Sophomore standout Brenna Wise scored 20 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to lead Vincentian to the PIAA Class A girls semifinals with a 68-51 victory in the quarterfinals Saturday against Kennedy Catholic at North Allegheny.
Senior point guard Abbey Bartoszewicz and freshman reserve Maia Joiner each added 10 points for the Royals (28-1). Kennedy Catholic, which fell to Vincentian for the second time this season, finished 24-3.
The Royals threatened to turn the game into an early blowout, racing to a 10-1 lead and later holding a 33-13 advantage with 2:23 left in the first half. But the Eagles went on a 10-0 run to cut the halftime deficit to 33-23.
Later, the Eagles twice cut the deficit to eight, the final time coming at 53-45 with 4:39 left.
Vincentian coach Ron Moncrief called a timeout, but it was Bartoszewicz who had the last word.
"That's their run, and their time is done," she said she told her teammates. "It was our time to take the game over."
Which the Royals did, going on a 15-6 run to close the game out.
Vincentian will face Bishop Guilfoyle Tuesday in the PIAA semifinals . The Marauders beat Clarion, 45-35 in another quarterfinal.
Class AAA
• South Park 61, Franklin 43:The Eagles rolled to an 18-point victory against the Knights in a PIAA quarterfinal held at North Allegheny. Senior guard Shelby Lindsay and junior forward Halie Torris led the Eagles with 18 points. Freshman forward Allison McGrath added 16 as the Eagles raised their record to 26-2. Torris also had 14 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocked shots. Lindsay dished out 7 assists. But it was the Eagles' defense that set the early tone.
After giving up the first two points, South Park ended the first quarter on a 16-1 run to take firm control of the game. Lindsay gave the Eagles the lead for good with a 3-point basket. Torris, Lindsay, and McGrath accounted for all 16 points in the first quarter, and the trend continued the rest of the game.
The Knights (26-2) cut the deficit to nine points in the second quarter and again in the third.
• Blackhawk 78, Lancaster Catholic 52: The Cougars reached the PIAA Class AAA semifinals with an easy victory against Lancaster Catholic at Bedford. Chassidy Omogrosso led the Cougars (27-1) with 20 points. Halle Denman added 19 points, while Alexis Graham and Bridgette Shaffer chipped in 16 and 14 points.
Blackhawk converted 16 of its 19 free-throw attempts. The Cougars held a 38-25 halftime lead and put the game out of reach with a 23-15 advantage in the third quarter.
Porscha Speller led Lancaster Catholic (27-2) with 25 points.
Blackhawk will face WPIAL champion South Park Tuesday in the semifinals.
