Blackhawk delivers win vs. Hopewell

The Blackhawk girls basketball team gave head coach Steve Lodovico a great ending to a special day.
Lodovico and his wife welcomed a baby into the family Thursday morning, and then the Class AAA No. 1 Cougars (17-0, 8-0) completed a season sweep of No. 3 Hopewell (15-3, 6-3), 58-40, in Section 2.
Blackhawk, which beat the Vikings, 56-52, Dec. 20 at Hopewell, jumped out to a 19-6 lead on its home floor and upped the lead to 16 by halftime.
Alexis Graham led the Cougars with 20 points and added 12 rebounds. Sophomore Chassidy Omogrosso, who committed to Pitt Wednesday, scored 14 points.
Shatori Walker-Kimbrough (24 points) and Shaniya Rivers (10 points) provided most of the offense for Hopewell.
Other top girls games
• Uniontown (13-2, 8-1) moved into first place in Class AAA Section 3 by beating host Greensburg Salem (12-5, 7-1), 56-53. Danasha Harris led Uniontown with 19 points. Claire and Jayne Oberdorf each scored 16 to lead the Golden Lions, who defeated Uniontown, 50-40, Dec. 20.
• Class A No. 4 Quigley Catholic (12-4, 8-0) completed a sweep of its closest competitor in Section 1 with a 50-32 victory against Union (10-5, 7-2). Kristen Jackson led Quigley with 14 points.
• CeCe Dixon scored 26 points to lead Steel Valley (10-6, 5-3) to a 55-54 overtime victory against Chartiers-Houston (10-7, 4-5) in Class AA Section 4. Dixon sent the game into overtime with a 3-pointer with 25 seconds remaining.
• Rachel Ritzer hit six free throws in the final minute to help Charleroi (13-5, 8-1) hold off visiting South Side Beaver (6-11, 4-5), 44-41, in Class AA Section 5. Mia Woytovich led Charleroi with 12 points.
Sibling duel
• Carrick's Kelsey Brooks not only faced her former team, Neighborhood Academy, Thursday, but also opposed her younger sister, Malaysia. Kelsey Brooks scored 13 points in an 84-44 win for the Raiders (6-7), while Malaysia Brooks had 15 for Neighborhood Academy.
Stars of the night
• Lauren Wolosik of Class A No. 3 North Catholic (11-6, 7-1) scored 30 of her 34 points in the first half of the Trojanettes' 75-20 victory against Imani Christian (1-14, 1-7) in Section 2. Wolosik has scored at least 30 points in three consecutive games.
• Audrey Stapleton scored 25 of her 37 points in the second half to help visiting Indiana (11-6) overcome an 11-point halftime deficit to win, 61-52, against City League No. 1 Allderdice (9-6).
• Ciara Clark had 28 points, 20 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals to lead Aliquippa (3-14, 3-6) to a 55-39 victory against visiting Western Beaver (0-13, 0-9) in Class A Section 1.
Milestone
• Senior Jessica Slagus of Belle Vernon (12-4, 6-2) scored 26 points to give her 1,006 for her high school career in the Leopards' 64-17 victory against visiting Waynesburg (3-14, 0-9) in Class AAA Section 3. Slagus also grabbed 12 rebounds to give her 752 for her career.
