The Vincentian Royals ran into a team that likes to run as much as they do -- and then some.

In a fast-paced, up-and-down contest, Bishop Carroll knocked off Vincentian, 92-85, in a PIAA Class A second-round game Tuesday at Hempfield.

Vincentian, the WPIAL champion who averages 83 points a game, finished the season 26-2. Both losses were to Bishop Carroll (23-5), the District 6 runner-up from Ebensburg. Earlier in the season, the Huskies beat Vincentian, 83-81.

This time, Bishop Carroll turned the ball over 27 times against Vincentian's full-court presses and half-court traps. But Bishop Carroll also beat Vincentian's defense with regularity for layups.

Marcus Lee, a 6-foot-5 junior center, had 33 points and 13 rebounds for Bishop Carroll. He averages only 12 points a game, but scored 20 in the first Vincentian contest. He was nearly perfect from the field this time, making 13 of 14 shots, none more than 6 feet from the basket.

Senior guard Scott Ranck added 27 for Bishop Carroll.

In the second half, Bishop Carroll shot 68 percent from the field (15 of 22), with most of the shots in close.

Sophomore guard Ryan Wolf led Vincentian with 27 points, making 11 of 27 shots from the field, including 4 of 15 from 3-point range.

Junior forward Jim Kenna had five 3-pointers and 20 points for Vincentian. Overall, Vincentian was 14 of 38 from 3-point range.

Vincentian held a 46-44 lead at halftime and its final lead was 58-57 with 2:25 left in the third quarter.

Bishop Carroll held a 65-61 lead after three quarters.

The Huskies' biggest lead was 83-72 with 1:37 left. Vincentian could get no closer than five with 36 seconds remaining.

Bishop Carroll will play Lincoln Park in the quarterfinals.
