Canon-McMillan's opponent had two days to try to beat the Big Macs, but the extra time did not matter.

Canon-McMillan beat District 6 champion Central Mountain, 6-1, in a PIAA Class AAAA quarterfinal Friday in Loretto, Pa.

The teams played three innings Thursday before rain forced the game to be suspended with Canon-McMillan leading, 6-1.

When play resumed Friday, nothing changed.

Canon-McMillan (18-5), the WPIAL champion, used a four-run first and Olivia Lorusso's two-run homer in the third to roll past Central Mountain (12-12).

Winning pitcher Alayna Astuto gave up five hits and struck out nine.

The Big Macs will face District 1 runner-up Bishop Shanahan in the semifinals Monday.

Class AA

• Martinsburg Central 4, Deer Lakes 2: WPIAL champion Deer Lakes (20-2) gave up three home runs, including back-to-back homers in the second, and was eliminated by District 6 runner-up Martinsburg Central (19-6) at Loretto. Martinsburg Central's Kate Blattenberger broke a 2-2 tie with a two-run homer in the fifth --her second of the game. Deer Lakes had runners at second and third with two outs in the seventh, but Candace Scanga grounded out to end the game.
