Canon-McMillan wins WPIAL AAAA softball title

Canon McMillan won its first-ever WPIAL softball championship Thursday night, defeating Hempfield 4-1 at California University.
Olivia Lorusso hit a three-run home run run to power the Big Macs, who were making their first appearance in the title game. Hempfield had seven championship appearances. Abby McCartney also drove in a run for the Big Macs.
Alayna Astuto pitched a complete game for Canon-McMillan, allowing just three hits and only one after the third inning.
Both teams will advance to the PIAA tournament starting next week.
