Carvan Thompson, Clairton / Angela Heintz, Seton-LaSalle
Last week: Thompson, making his state-record 64th career start, helped the Clairton football team win its WPIAL-record 47th game in a row by defeating Southern Columbia, 35-19, for the PIAA Class A championship.
The skinny: Thompson, a 6-foot-2, 230-pound center/nose tackle, was a starter since the first game of his freshman season, and helped the Bears win four WPIAL and three PIAA titles. His brother, Capri, was Clairton's starting quarterback this season
• What did it mean to break the WPIAL record for consecutive wins? It meant a lot because we tried hard and that was a big goal of ours.
• Did you ever score an offensive touchdown? Yeah, I did this season. Tyler [Boyd] had a long run, but he fumbled into the end zone and I recovered it.
• How did it feel to snap the ball to your brother one final time? It was an emotional moment. It was like we'll never do it again.
• What is the biggest difference between you and Capri? He's more open than I am. He talks more than me.
• Best player on your team that few people talk about? [Senior] Devante Gardlock. He just works hard. He's a really good defensive end.
• When did you stop believing in Santa Claus? When I was about 7 or 8.
• When does your family open Christmas presents? Probably ... Christmas Eve, around midnight.
• What do you think about the Pitt coaching situation? I know their coach left. One of our players is going down there [senior wide receiver/defensive back Trenton Coles], and I know it's made him think a lot about if he still wants to go there.
• Most people would be surprised to know that ... I'm not scared to show my emotions.

Last week: A 5-foot-10 junior guard, Heintz had 27 points and 14 rebounds in leading the Class AA Rebels to a 60-52 victory against three-time defending PIAA Class AAAA champion Mt. Lebanon. She also had 11 points in a 65-20 win Monday against Thomas Jefferson to improve defending WPIAL Class AA champion Seton-LaSalle to 4-0.
Check this out: A Bethel Park resident, Heintz has started since her freshman year for the Rebels, who are ranked No. 1 in WPIAL Class AA by the Post-Gazette. A team co-captain, Heintz is averaging 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists per game.
• Did that win against Mt. Lebanon carry any extra significance? It did. It feels great to beat a team that had so much prestige.
• Each of the past four years, Seton-LaSalle has made it deeper into the PIAA postseason. Is this the year your team makes it to a PIAA championship game? I definitely have the faith in my team. I think we can definitely do it this year, for sure.
? Does your team have any rituals or traditions for how you celebrate together after a win? (laughs) We're definitely a team that likes to eat together a lot. We always go out to Eat'n Park as much as we can.
• Who has the best pizza in Pittsburgh? Definitely Fiori's.
• How old were you when, if ever, you stopped believing in Santa Claus? I'm still believing to this day -- what are you talking about!?
• Which of your teammates is considered the team clown? The Bean Pole, [6-1 junior forward] Natalie Piaggesi. She's just always joking all the time.
• Do you have any pets? I have two dogs, Winnie [aka, Winnifred, aka, Winnie The Pooh] and Daisy, and then a turtle [Willie].
