Shamar Greene

West Mifflin

Last week: Greene rushed for 183 yards, including a 58-yard touchdown to help the West Mifflin football team earn a share of the WPIAL Class AAA Big Eight Conference title and snap Thomas Jefferson's 37-game conference winning streak by defeating the Jaguars, 27-14.

Check this out: Greene, a Duquesne resident, has rushed for 1,110 yards and has scored 13 touchdowns, both team highs. It's the second year in a row he has surpassed 1,000 yards for the Titans, who will play host to Mars in a first-round WPIAL playoff game Friday.

• What did it mean to beat Thomas Jefferson? That was one of the most important games we've had. That's basically what we've been working so hard for game by game. Just to come out and play TJ for the [conference] championship and, for us to win, it was a blessing.

• Your only loss this season was a head-scratcher, as it came at home against a Trinity team that did not make the playoffs. What happened in that game? We basically just beat ourselves and let the elements (it rained that night) get to us.

• How much pride do you have being a football player from Duquesne? I have a lot of pride in where I'm from. Duquesne will always live in my heart and be a part of who I am.

• Which of your teammates is the smoothest with the ladies? (Laughs) [Senior] Everett Lesko. They just kind of flock to him. I don't know what he says to them, but they flock.

• If you didn't play football and had to play a fall sport, which would it be: Cross country, soccer or golf? Probably cross country. I'm not any good at soccer and I've never golfed.

• You live about a mile away from Kennywood. How often do you go there? I actually work there at the basketball game.

• How old were you when you stopped trick or treating? 14.

• Most people would be surprised to know that ... I'm a gamer.
