This year's Mylan Classic is set to go off as planned at Southpointe Golf Club, but next year's edition of the Web.com Tour event could have some new wrinkles.

The Web.com Tour -- formerly the Nationwide Tour -- is a developmental series for professionals who hope to graduate to the PGA Tour. At a news conference Wednesday, officials discussed plans to revamp the qualifying system.

Traditionally, the Web.com Tour has awarded 25 PGA Tour cards for the following year, with the other 25 earned at the PGA Tour's Qualifying School.

Starting in 2013, though, all 50 cards will come through the Web.com Tour.

The top 75 on the money list on that tour and the players ranked between 126 and 200 on the PGA Tour will compete in three playoff-style events to determine who gets a PGA Tour card for the following year.

Rod Piatt, the president of Southpointe Golf Club, hopes the Mylan Classic can be one of those three events.

"I think it would be very uniquely special for our tournament, so we're going to do the best we can to see if that could happen," Piatt said.

Tim Iley, director of tournament business affairs for the PGA Tour, said a decision on where to host the final events is probably about two months away.

The Mylan Classic, in its third year, is one of the last events on the Web.com schedule, an aspect that tournament director Chase McClain said is beneficial.

"Being toward the end of the season, as guys are competing to get one of those 25 PGA Tour cards, the top 25 are typically at every event," McClain said. "We'll have a strong field."
