Two power-play goals by Zach Parise give the Devils a 2-1 defeat of the Penguins.
-The powers that be at the Post-Gazette decided to give us a the second or third laptop ever built so things are a little slow tonight. Apologies.
-Former Canadian prime minister Paul Martin, Michael Rupp and Karel Rachunek are scratched for the Devils.
-The scratches are Maxime Talbot who is injured, Darryl Sydor and Mark Recchi. The announcement of Recchi's scratch brings a very loud cheer.
-During the pregame "light-up" video, the mention of Colby Armstrong brings an even louder cheer.
-Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello is walking around the press box. You have no idea how badly we want to slap him and berate him for bringing over a decade of boring championship hockey to the world.
-Talbot's up here too. It's weird seeing a player your used to seeing on the ice hustling at full speed walking around in a suit right before a game starts.
-Now normally the absence of Jeff Jimerson singing the national anthem would bring tears to our eyes. Or just make us punch people. But his replacement is adequate to say the least. Dooownieee Aris fills Jimerson's shoes with ease.

19:58: Right off the bat Ryan Malone and David Clarkson go at it. It's a very spirited affair. Clarkson dominates for the most part. No idea what that's caused this fight. Though we suspect Malone made fun of Clarkson for liking Coldplay.
7:55: Clarkson's really mad about that Coldplay comment. During a scramble around the net, he gets in Gary Roberts' grill.
7:15: Erik Christensen put the Devils on the power play as he takes a holding penalty.
6:14 Adam Hall puts the Penguins in a rough spot as he takes a holding penalty. The Devils will get nearly a minute with a two-man advantage.
5:10: Jamie Langenbrunner feeds a pass from the point to Zach Parise. From the right side of the net, Parise easily punches in a goal into the empty cage. "What's Up" by 4 Non Blondes is played to "celebrate" the goal. Devils 1-0.
What an awful song.
0:00: End of a fairly uneventful period. Devils 1, Penguins 0.
-The Devils outshot the Penguins 12-6 in the first period.
-Val Porter hosts some turkey bowling during the intermission. We've said it once, we'll say it again. She needs to pull the microphone down from her face. She's easy on the eyes. We should see her face.
17:57: From the left side, Dainius Zubrus fires a hard slapper. Marc-Andre Fleury gets down to make the save and the puck deflects into the netting.
15:42: 17,132. It's the 25th sell-out in a row for the Penguins.
13:52: From the slot, Jordan Staal whips a hard wrister on net and Martin Brodeur cooly kicks it out.
13:19: During a stoppage, a trivia game is played. The guy playing it knows the college that Ryan Malone played at was Saint Cloud State. That's impressive.
9:55: Arron Asham has a chance down low in the crease. He snaps a one-timer on net but Fleury comes up with a big save.
9:46: The Penguins get their first break as Johnny Oduya is sent to the box for holding the stick. During the stoppage, our friends at Army's Pit get some love on the big screen.
8:11: A sloppy giveaway by Sergei Gonchar in his own allows the Devils to kill 10 seconds of the penalty.
7:45: The power play ends for the Penguins. They failed to piece together any sort of sustained attack.
5:08: Kiersten Venderlic wins the Burger King fan of the game award. The only reason we're metioning this is because she's a co-worker of EN mom Mary Rorabaugh and well... we want a good turkey dinner tomorrow.
3:19: Armstrong gets two minutes for holding.
2:29: Sidney Crosby steals the puck off Oduya in the Penguins' zone and generates a short-handed breakaway. He bears down on Brodeur and shoots low. Brodeur squeezes his pads together and kicks the puck out. Is if fair to ask why Johnny Oduya and his four points is on the power play?
0:25: Petr Sykora is sent off for hooking.
0:00: End of period. The Devils will get 1:34 on a power play with a clean sheet of ice. Devils 1, Penguins 0.
-The Penguins managed to even the shot totals a bit that period. The Devils now hold a 20-16 advantage in shots.
-Ray Shero's talking to an official with the Blackhawks right next to us as we type this. They're discussing a trade involving Mark Recchi for Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane and next year's first-round draft pick. We think.
-In case you're really dense, that was total sarcasm. Please don't think we were being serious with that last comment about the trade.
-Sheldon Brookbank has an impressive four blocked shots already.
-Some Dropkick Murphys is being played as the teams return to the ice. Solid.
18:25: The Penguins dodge a big bullet and kill Sykora's penalty.
18:02: But they go right back to the box. Crosby is sent off for tripping.
17:27: A shot from the point is deflected across the crease and right to Parise who fires the puck into an open net for an easy goal. Crosby appears to say something to the officials and is told to stay in the box for an extra two minutes for unsportsmanlike conduct. Devils 2-0.
12:49: Oduya skates with the puck from behind his own net but has it stolen by Malkin. The Penguins forward comes in alone on Brodeur and beats him stick side. Mellon Arena explodes in applause almost as if it was a bottle of pop that was shaken up. After some questionable calls and some rather boring hockey, the fans have been waiting for something to cheer about. Song 2 by Blur is played. Devils 2-1.
12:28: Brookbank is sent to the box for interference.
9:40: Adam Hall catches an unsuspecting Devil with a check that sends him flying.
8:46: Oduya's having a rough night. He gets two minutes for hooking with Georges Laraque.
7:15: The Penguins have a huge opportunity to tie things up now. Vitaly Vishnevsky hauls down Sidney Crosby and gets two minutes. The Penguins will have a two-man advantage for 29 seconds. Michel Therrien call time-out to rest his top power-play unit.
6:31: A Penguin snaps a shot off from the right faceoff circle. Martin Brodeur is out of place but scrambles to make the save and knocks the net off.
5:15: The power play expires and the Penguins fail to capitalize.
4:53: Cotton-Eyed Joe is busted out.
3:39: We can see people leaving already. Granted the Penguins aren't playing great, but why would you leave a one-goal game to simply beat traffic?
3:10: Martin Brodeur just won the game. Kris Letang makes a beautiful move around a Devils defender in the slot and goes low on Brodeur who gloves the shot easily.
0:59: Fleury leaves the net for an extra attacker.
0:00: End of game. Devils 2, Penguins 1.
-Crosby's unsportsmanlike conduct penalty was inexcusable, especially for the captain.
-Crosby's 19-game scoring streak comes to an end.
