UConn women snap Duke's home streak

Bria Hartley scored 15 points and No. 3 Connecticut beat No. 5 Duke, 61-45, Monday night to snap the Blue Devils' 34-game winning streak at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Caroline Doty added 11 points for the Huskies (20-2). They shot 45 percent, held Duke to a season-low 24.6 percent shooting and forced 19 consecutive missed shots during a critical stretch of roughly 12 minutes en route to their 10th consecutive win.
Chelsea Gray scored 13 points for the Blue Devils (17-3), who had won 11 in a row overall. It was their first loss at Cameron since Connecticut visited two years ago.
Elizabeth Williams added 10 points on 3-of-15 shooting for Duke, and her layup with less than 18 minutes left was the Blue Devils' last basket until Haley Peters hit a 3-pointer with less than 6 minutes remaining.
Duke trailed by 14 late in the first half before putting together a 12-3 run that bridged the break. The Blue Devils forced five turnovers in the first six minutes of the half, and Williams helped Duke close to 34-29 with a free throw with 17:19 left.
That's when Connecticut began stretching its lead with 3-pointers. The Huskies hit four in a 9-minute stretch before Tiffany Hayes added a basket in the lane, pushing it to 50-33 with 7 minutes left, and Duke didn't get closer than 12 the rest of the way.
• Robert Morris 63, Long Island 57: The host Colonials (11-10, 5-5 NEC) tightened their second-half defense to pull out the win against the Blackbirds (15-7, 4-6). Robert Morris held Long Island to 20 points in the second half to overcoma 5-point halftime deficit. Mary Durojaye led the Colonials with 29 points.
• Iona coach Tim Cluess signed a multiyear extension that will keep him under contract until 2017. Cluess, who in April 2010 became Iona's 10th men's coach, went 25-12 in his first season with the Gaels. ... Joseph Curran, who coached the Canisius men's basketball team to three consecutive NCAA tournament appearances in the 1950s, died Saturday in Mystic, Conn. He was 89. No cause of death was provided. ... The Point Park University women cracked the top 25 in the NAIA Division II coaches poll on a strength of a 51-43 victory Saturday against then-No. 19 Daemen. ... Undefeated Murray State will get a big test when the 10th-ranked Racers take on No. 18 Saint Mary's in one of several BracketBuster matchups Feb. 18. Murray State, the only remaining undefeated Division I team at 21-0, will be host to the Gaels (21-2). Other matchups include No. 13 Creighton (20-2) vs. Long Beach State (16-6), Wichita State (18-4) at Davidson (15-5), Nevada (18-3) at Iona (17-5) and Akron (14-7) at Oral Roberts (20-4).
