Three keys for 2012-13 Duquesne women's basketball

1. Keeping the guard up

With the graduation of point guard Vanessa Abel, the Duquesne women, like the men, will turn to a newcomer to handle the position. Freshman April Robinson led the team in scoring with 15 points in an exhibition game last week and looks to be a lock for the role. Another option for coach Suzie McConnell-Serio is junior college transfer Oditte Odisho. Neither player has Division I experience.

2. The numbers game

McConnell-Serio has just 11 players on her roster with senior forward Carly Vendemia currently out with an injury. She got standout forward Wumi Agunbiade back from a knee injury earlier than expected but has little wiggle room when it comes to sheer

numbers if the injury bug strikes again.

3. Turning the corner

In five years under McConnell-Serio, the Dukes have not turned the corner to contend deep into the Atlantic 10 tournament. The team has never advanced to the semifinals or beyond the quarterfinal round. Will this finally be the year?
