Duquesne women advance in WNIT with win over Akron

Duquesne advanced to the second round of the Women's National Invitation Tournament with a 71-66 win against Akron tonight.

Wumi Agunbiade scored 20 points for the Dukes, and Vanessa Abel added 14 more. The Zips led by as many as 11 in the second half, but Duquesne rallied back and took the lead for good with 3:56 to go in the game.

Duquesne used its pressure defense to force Akron into 25 turnovers on the night, and scored 27 points off those turnovers.

The Dukes will advance to face either Bowling Green or SMU at a date and time to be determined in the second round of the WNIT.
