Porsche Poole scored a career-high 32 points and Michigan State rallied to beat No. 18 Penn State, 83-77, in Big Ten Conference action Sunday at Breslin Center in East Lansing, Mich.
Following a 28-point effort in a loss to Illinois, Poole was 10 for 15 from the field, including hitting three 3-pointers, for the Spartans (13-9, 5-4). She also had 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals.
The win ended a three-game skid for Michigan State and completed a sweep of the Nittany Lions (16-5, 6-3). The Spartans jumped to a 22-point halftime lead Jan. 7 and won, 75-65.
It was much tougher this time in a game neither team led by more than nine points. But with 16 points and 12 rebounds from Lykendra Johnson and 13 points and six assists from Kiana Johnson, Michigan State was just a bit quicker.
Maggie Lucas had 21 points and Mia Nickson added 18 for Penn State, which made 19 of 23 free throws.
• Kentucky 82, Alabama 68: Keyla Snowden scored 14 points and A'dia Mathies added 13 as No. 6 Kentucky jumped on Alabama (10-12, 0-8) with a big first-half run to move the Wildcats (20-2, 9-0) within one game of matching the best start in school history. Kentucky is vying for its first Southeastern Conference title in 30 years and looking to match the squad one year later that won 21 of its first 23 games on the way to the NCAA tournament.
• Tennessee 67, Georgia 50: Shekinna Stricklen scored 24 points, including six in Tennessee's 11-0 run to open the second half, and the No. 7 Lady Vols (16-5, 7-1 SEC) beat No. 17 host Georgia (16-6, 5-4).
• Minnesota 76, Ohio State 65: Rachel Banham scored 20 points and made three 3-pointers, helping host Minnesota (12-11, 4-5 Big Ten) take down No. 9 Ohio State (20-2, 7-2). Kiara Buford added 15 points and seven assists for the Golden Gophers, who beat a ranked team for the first time in nearly three years.
• Miami 88, Boston College 57: Shenise Johnson scored 16 of her 22 points in the opening half to lead No. 10 Miami (19-3, 8-1 ACC) to its eighth consecutive victory in a rout of host Boston College (5-16, 0-8). The Hurricanes never trailed and pulled to a double-digit lead on Riquna Williams' basket in the lane 5:44 into the game.
• Georgetown 54, Rutgers 36: Tia Magee scored 21 points and No. 20 Georgetown (17-5, 6-3 Big East) held No. 11 Rutgers (17-4, 6-2) to a season-low for points. Sugar Rodgers added 19 points for the Hoyas. Magee and Rodgers added five steals apiece as Rutgers committed 22 turnovers.
• Texas A&M 66, Iowa State 64: Sydney Carter made two free throws with 2.4 seconds left to lift No. 14 Texas A&M (14-5, 5-3 Big 12) to a victory against visiting Iowa State (11-8, 2-6).
• Nebraska 67, Illinois 47: Lindsey Moore scored 20 points to help No. 19 Nebraska (18-3, 7-2 Big Ten) beat host Illinois (7-15, 1-8).
• North Carolina 75, Wake Forest 71: Tierra Ruffin-Pratt scored 19 of her 21 points in the second half and No. 25 North Carolina (16-5, 6-2 ACC) took command late to beat host Wake Forest (12-9, 2-6).
