District Basketball Roundup: Pitt women still on slide

Lauren Tibbs scored 14 points, Katherine Plouffe added 13 and Marquette led for the majority of the game en route to a 74-65 win against Pitt at Petersen Events Center.
The loss is the fourth in a row for the Panthers, and their 22nd consecutive Big East Conference defeat. Despite four double-figure scorers, Pitt trailed, 40-34, at halftime and never were able to close the gap against the Golden Eagles (10-7, 2-2).
Coming off a 61-32 loss at St. John's, the Panthers (9-8, 0-4) at least found their rhythm offensively Saturday. Brianna Kiesel led all scorers with 18 points and Cora McManus scored 15. Marquel Davis and Loliya Briggs added 12 and 10 points, respectively.

• Quinnipiac 61, Robert Morris 52: Artemis Spanou had 14 points and 20 rebounds but Robert Morris (3-13, 2-3 NEC) fell to Quinnipiac (14-2, 5-0) at Sewall Center.
• Baylor 76, West Virginia 58: Brittney Griner had her 50th career double-double, scoring 26 points with 15 rebounds and 9 blocks, as host No. 1 Baylor (16-1, 6-0) beat Big 12 newcomer West Virginia (11-6, 3-3).
• Nebraska 68, Penn State 64: Shavon Shields scored a career-high 29 points, Ray Gallegos had 15 points and Nebraska held off Penn State (8-10, 0-6 Big Ten) at Bryce Jordan Center. Jermaine Marshall failed to convert two free throws in the final 16 seconds, helping the Cornhuskers (10-9, 1-5) escape.
• Purdue 79, West Virginia 52: D.J. Byrd scored 17 points to help host Purdue defeat West Virginia (8-9) in a non-conference matchup. Rapheal Davis added 16 points, Anthony Johnson 12 and Terone Johnson 11 for the Boilermakers (10-8), who won their third in a row. Purdue shot 49 percent from the field and outrebounded the Mountaineers, 44-34.
