WhoWhatWHEREWhy: PIZZAZZ shopping and lunch benefit
Sometimes shopping isn't just about buying something but about making memories.
For Sherri Wilson, searching for Christmas nightgowns for her daughters at the Garden Club of Allegheny County PIZZAZZ boutique shopping benefit was a tender experience in years past.
"That was such a big deal for me to go and do that," she says.
As the chair of PIZZAZZ 2011, she hopes others will have a memorable time browsing men and women's wear, jewelry and other accessories, children's clothing, stationery, decorative objects for the home and more from 30 upscale vendors at the Fox Chapel Golf Club Wednesday through Friday.
Now in its 16th year, the event is the largest fundraising effort for Garden Club of Allegheny County, which raises money for grants the club allocates throughout Western Pennsylvania. Last year, PIZZAZZ helped the group award more than $55,000 to the Phipps Conservatory's Center for Sustainable Landscapes' green roof project. To date, PIZZAZZ has provided the club with more than $800,000 for funding environmental education, conservation, horticultural and civic programs.
This year, shoppers will be treated to new vendors and some familiar faces back by demand -- all from outside the region.
